VXelements is a fully integrated 3D data acquisition software that powers the entire fleet of 3D scanning and measurement technologies developed by Creaform. VXelements consists of these software modules: VXscan™, VXprobe™, VXshot™. This powerful platform summons all the necessary elements and tools into a user-friendly and intuitive working environment, while its functions and capabilities have proven their efficiency and power in the field over the years.

Each Handyscan 3D laser scanner comes with VxScan, the proprietary data acquisition software created by Creaform. This high-performance software has proven its efficiency and power in the field.

VXscan is entirely dedicated to the acquisition and optimization of 3D scanning data. It delivers high performance for that specific task, yet it is simple and user-friendly enough to suit any user's experience level.

Some of the key features/benefits of VXscan are:

  • Optimisation Algorithm Offers a surface optimisation algorithm that avoids the creation of multiple scan layers and ensures a more accurate meshing without any post-treatment. The output is an optimized meshing that can be exported in all standard formats.
  • Scan Resolution Control There is virtually no limitation to the scan resolution: just input a resolution value, independent from the size of the scanned object. Resolution can be changed at any time before or after the scan. The software can recreate a meshing from the raw data previously acquired.
  • Real Time Surface Render VXscan renders the surface in real time as the object is being scanned. This allows the user to view the 3D surface and manipulate the 3D scanner to capture those areas that have not been digitised.
  • Create Geometrical Entities VXscan is able to create geometrical entities from the scan mesh files. This entities are compatible with those generated with the VXprobe module.
  • Mesh Edit VXscan has several other functions related to the optimisation of the meshing such as hole filling, smart decimation (without definition loss on the meshing), or boundary filters.

The VXprobe module is the software section within VXelements that allows the user to interact with the data acquired using a HandyPROBE and share it with either other VXelements components or third-party software.

It is through the VXprobe module that the user:

  • Has access to the calibration functions of both the HandyPROBE and the C-Track,
  • Shares alignment data and positioning features with other VXelements components,
  • Performs elemental metrology functions like:
    • Simple touch-point measurement
    • Touch-point measurement of basic geometrical entities such as planes, circles, polygons, etc.
    • Geometric calculations such as angles and distances
  • Connects to other third-party metrology software
  • Exports measurement results to an IGES file

Unlike other systems on the market, where data accuracy is partially contingent upon the operator’s experience and technique, VXshot features an extremely simple data acquisition process.

  • VXshot guides operators every step of the way throughout the process of capturing images for photogrammetric calculations
  • VXshot  measures and recomputes all the identified points each time an image is taken.
  • VXshot clearly and immediately notifies operators if they need to take additional pictures to increase measurement accuracies by
    • colour coding the targets to indicate if a target has sufficient quantity of shots and also a good variation of angle between the shoots
    • colour coding each image captured to indicate if the quality of an image is good enough for the photogrammetric calculations
  • Real-time visualization and validation of the positioning model make it possible to see the rebuilt volume and all estimated points with the utmost accuracy
  • The operator's work flow is more efficient compared to other photogrammetry systems
    • the real-time display provides immediate guidance and thus compensates for any lack of experience on the part of the operator
    • the operator, to know the quality of the measurement, need not complete the whole process of taking all the required photos and running the software's measurement calculations

The new VXtrack module adds dynamic tracking capability to the C-Track line of dual camera sensors. It can now record 30-3D images-per-second of a reflector or sets of reflectors in real time for the study of a variety of applications involving motion tracking. Such applications include:

  • Track a robotic arm (automated high-precision manufacturing processes)
  • Track assembly operations (aerospace...)
  • Track tools path
  • Low-frequency vibration analysis (car door closing, engine block movement...)
  • Capture of movement (biomechanics, etc.)

The module offers a graphic interface allowing to analyse results or export data files in the current formats most widely used.
